Terry Clock Co. medium iron case clock, 1867-1880. This is the 8-inch version of this stalwart from the Terry Clock Co., formed by Silas B. Terry in Waterbury, CT along with his four sons. The iron case has been repainted, the brass bezel polished, and the glass replaced. The paper dial is yellowed, the hands correct. The 30-hour time, strike, and alarm movement is running but the strike needs adjustment. The alarm does not appear to be working. The is a partial label on the back. Shipping: $30.

Terry Clock Co. large iron case clock, 1867-1880. This clock came in three sizes, 6, 8, and 9 inches tall; this is the 9-inch version and is the only model that came with an 8-day movement. All three sizes were available with and without a strike, as well as a time-strike-alarm or just time and alarm. The metal case was painted black with painted decorations, but they did not last and most clocks have been repainted, as this one has, sans the decorative elements. The 4-inch dial on this clock has been painted, but usually they have paper dials. The hands are period/correct and there is an old flat glass in the brass bezel. It runs only briefly and will strike. There is a worn and illegible label on the wooden backboard. The pendulum is fixed to the movement and the bottom is open.

The dial glass is old with an old paper dial and appropriate hands. It is running and the alarm works. Remnants of labels on the back. Key included.

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Round Top”, ca. 1864. An uncommon model, with no sales that I can find on LiveAuctioneers or in the AAC database. It is shown on page 457 in Ly’s book on Welch clocks. The rosewood case is 9.5 inches tall with a clean, polished finish. The dial glass is modern, the metal dial old, likely repainted some time ago. The hands are proper replacements. The 30-hour time-only movement is unsigned. It is running strongly. There is a good label on the back of the case.

Ansonia Clock Co. “Tivoli”, ca. 1894. A 15-inch walnut cabinet clock that has been refinished nicely. The trim pieces are all correct and in place, the dial glass is modern, there is a brass repoussé and paper dial with appropriate hands. The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running without difficulty, striking the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong. No label.

E. Ingraham Co. “Cabinet E”, ca. 1900. A 16-inch refinished oak case with pressed designs and applied wood ornaments, including a pressed wood pendulum window. The glass is original with gilt stenciling, the brass repoussé and paper dial is a replacement, the hands are correct. The 8-day, time and half-hour slow strike movement is signed and running, striking on a cathedral gong with a nice sound. The pendulum bob is a replacement; there is a good label on the back.

E. Ingraham Co. “Cabinet F”, ca. 1900. A 15.5-inch refinished oak case with pressed imprints and applied wood ornamentation. The glass is original with gilt decorations and a pressed wood pendulum window. The Ingraham brass and paper dial is a replacement, the hands are correct. The 8-day, time and half hour slow-strike moment is signed and running, striking on a cathedral gong. A small red label on the back.

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Sharp Gothic”, ca. 1860. A 19-inch steeple with clean walnut veneer and two older glasses and modern applique tablet. The unusual finials are likely replacements. The metal dial has been repainted, the hands are appropriate. The 30-hour time-and-strike, spring-driven movement is signed EN Welch and is running and striking on a wire gong. There is an alarm that is not hooked up and a darkened label on the backwall.

Waterbury Clock Co. “10-inch Drop Octagon” calendar,ca. 1906. A 22-inch case with rosewood veneer and a clean, old finish, and some chipping to the veneer along the outer edges of the dial. The dial glass is modern, the dial is replaced glossy paper, the hands are correct and period. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed but will only run for a short time and will need service. The calendar will advance. No label.

New Haven Clock Co. “No. 26”, ca. 1886. A 13.5-inch tall and 15-inch-wide metal case that was repainted some time ago. The dial glass is convex and beveled, the outer dial badly renumbered and the inner dial original with replacement hands painted gold and a visible escapement. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is marked New Haven and is running and striking. An Ingraham pendulum bob.

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Round Band”, 1863-1913. The 16.5-inch case is veneered in walnut with an old, worn, dark finish and some graininess on the front. Both glasses are original with a well-preserved floral tablet. The flat dial has been repainted, the hands are ST issue and proper. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed Thomaston and is running, striking on a wire gong. A dark but readable label inside.

Waterbury Clock Co. “Small Gothic”, ca. 1881. A miniature (14.5-inch) steeple with good rosewood veneer in need of cleaning/polishing, two period glasses and a well-retained tablet of a church. The flat metal dial holds very old paint with considerable wear and soiling; the hands are period and likely original. The small 30-hour, time-only movement is unsigned and running strongly. A good Waterbury label inside.

F. Kroeber “Thistle”, ca. 1879. Florence Kroeber began working for George B. Owen in New York City around 1860 and was running the shop and buying clocks from various makers by the late 1860’s. This alarm clock is 8.5 inches tall with a repainted spelter front and a “tin can” housing with the alarm bell on top, similar to clocks made by E.N. Welch. The 3.5-inch paper dial is signed with the Kroeber logo, with proper hands and the original glass. The one-day backwind, lever movement is running without difficulty, the alarm not tested. Ly shows two similar styles for this clock (Ly, Kroeber Clocks, pages 67-68).

E.N. Welch Mfg. Co. “Round Top No. 2”, ca. 1869. The 9.5-inch rosewood/mahogany case is the same as for the Round Top (DP-5), but the movement has a larger spring and runs for 8 days. This one also has an alarm integral to the unusual and unsigned round brass movement. The case has an old, polished finish; the dial glass is modern and the dial is glossy paper. The hands are correct and it is running strongly, with a good label on the back of the case.
